Language teaching isn’t the responsibility of the language teacher alone but must be the collective undertaking of all teachers, teaching all subjects. Every teacher teaches language when he or she explains science, math, or social science. Language is used to construct knowledge. This occurs constantly in school and the importance of using ‘correct’ language must not be overlooked by teachers of non-language subjects. The way knowledge, skills, and attitudes are communicated in schools contributes to the emancipator function of education. […]
