A museum can be a motivation for the community to move forward towards modernity without abandoning one’s Santal mentality [and] items like musical instruments, a mouse-trap or the ornaments, are not “any old wooden or metal thing” which our parents and grandparents once used [but] tell us of the history of our tribe and are a witness to the deep thoughts, the intelligence and ingenious spirit of our forefathers. Through these items we can educate our children about the rich culture and traditions that our ancestors have given us. – Dr. Boro Baski | Learn more >>

De wereld van Dik Trom visited by Boro Baski

We see Dr. Boro Baski sharing his music and experiences as educator and founder of the Museum of Santal Culture near Santiniketan with his Dutch hosts during a visit to the “little school of Dik Trom” (Dutch “Het Schooltje van Dik Trom”) on 9 juli 2018.

This unique school museum was created in Oosthuizen in the very building where the famous children’s book author Cornelis Johannes Kieviet taught village children between 1883-1902.

A special guided tour was provided by the school school museum’s co-founder Peter Fiedeldij Dop, a writer whose team succeeds in bringing local history to the attention of local people and visitors from all over the world. He and Boro Baski believe that “a museum can be a motivation for the community to move forward towards modernity [and to] educate our children about the rich culture and traditions that our ancestors have given us.”
