The Tribal Foundation (Nagercoil) concentrates on the social and economic development of Kaani communities in the remote forest regions of Kanyakumari District.

More than 15% of forest green cover was destroyed by cyclone “Ockhi”, besides damage to over 1,500 electric poles and 500 electric transformers.

Some 500 mobile telephone towers were damaged, leaving indigenous people without communication for 10 days while approach roads were cut off by fallen trees and electricity poles.
