JAMSHEDPUR: A tribal writer from the Steel City has won this year’s Sahitya Akademi award for writing a collection of short stories for children with morals.

Expressing her love for literature, Joba said she has been writing books since 2009 and in the last eight years she has penned five books, including translations of two milestone creations of iconic writer Munshi Premchand and inspiring poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. […]

“I will continue to contribute towards tribal literature by writing on socio-economic issues aimed at empowerment of tribal women along with informative and entertaining stories for children,” said Joba, who possess a post graduate degree in Santhali.

Regarding her upcoming book, she said the focus would be on the importance of education. The All India Santhali Writers’ Association, of which Joba is an active member, expressed delight at Joba receiving the award.
